Gifts

Mission Committee Corner

Matthew 2:10-11English Standard Version (ESV)

10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. 11 And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

The Mission Committee is sponsoring Christmas Alternatives, which began in 2000 and provides an option for that “hard to buy for” person on your list with a gift that gives to others.  Look in the newsletter or bulletin for the form to fill out. The year’s list focuses on what St. Mark Presbyterian members have valued most:
·       Support PC(USA) Mission Co-Workers in Peru, Haiti, or Taiwan.
·       “Give a Child a Christmas” through a donation to Presbyterian Children’s Home & Services, or donate for school supplies or eye exam/glasses.
·       Contribute to “building a well,” or provide medical supplies or a school scholarship in Africa through Marion Medical Mission.
·       Haiti has suffered many recent natural disasters.  Consider donations for livestock and animal food or shelter.  New this year: Moringa Tree Seeds, which are grown for human food consumption.
·       Fund Secondary School scholarships for youth in Plan Grande #2, our Nicaraguan partner community.  Since the program began in 2004, the community has seen a significant increase in high school attendance.  We have celebrated 54 graduates, many of whom have continued their training or education.  Some of our graduates are teachers, agricultural technicians, youth program coordinators – and all are grateful, educated citizens.
