Order of Worship December 24: Christmas Eve

PRELUDE      Rocking      Sobaje

CHRISTMAS WELCOME

ADVENT WREATH LITURGY

We light these candles as a sign of the coming light of Christ.

 In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord!

Make a highway in the desert for our God.

From ages of old, no ear has heard, no eye has seen one so glorious as the Lord our God, for whom we wait.

Every valley shall be lifted, every mountain and hill, made low;

Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed.

God’s anointed one is coming –

to bring good news to the oppressed,

to bind up the brokenhearted,

to proclaim liberty to the captives,

and to announce the time of the Lord’s favor.

The promise of the Lord is sure;

 the realm of God will be established forever.

† CAROL O Come, All Ye Faithful Hymnal #133

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Jesus, you are God’s holy child, born of Mary:

Lord have mercy.

Jesus, in you all the fullness of God is pleased to dwell.

Christ have mercy.

Jesus, you are the Word made flesh, full of grace and truth.

Lord have mercy. (Silent Confession)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.
