The St. Mark Ministry of Motion Movement

There is a quiet undercurrent within the congregation of St. Mark to take seriously the idea that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 6:19). Folks are tending to the intentional maintenance of these body/temples. It is holy work that brings blessings.

At St. Mark there are currently two groups that meet regularly for this purpose:
Yoga every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., downstairs
Chair Exercise every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m., downstairs

There is also a Facebook (social media) group called St. Mark Ministry of Motion. Its purpose is: “to encourage, inspire and collaborate with each other toward healthy stewardship of the physical bodies that God has given us. We strive to be healthy, strong and, thus, better equipped to serve God and each other. Best practice requires us to faithfully move and exercise.” Find it by searching on Facebook and ask to join. (All members of St. Mark and their friends are welcome. But, to protect privacy, only those in the group can see the pictures and read the posts.)

In the past few months, some members have been participating in several races, such as Go! St. Louis 5K (3.1 miles) in Forest Park (April 11) and the Color Run (April 18) in the city downtown. Betty Jo Wallace was the fastest in her age group in the GO! 5K. A handful of people have made a personal commitment to walk or run one 5K race per month for a year.

On April 12 six St. Mark members ran/walked in the half marathon portion of Go! StLouis. Bertha Larez finished first in her age group with a time that was faster than she had ever done! Susan Sherman Talley also achieved a new personal best record. Sam Collier earned his first half marathon medal. And Dick Wallace, Nina Collier, and Victoria Sherman added another medal to their past achievements.

“So continue encouraging each other and building each other up, just like you are already doing.” I Thessalonians 5:11
