Worship for Sept. 6

Sept 6, 2020
ORDER OF WORSHIP

CENTERING PRAYER Almighty God whose ways are far beyond our understanding, help us to trust your judgements, so that we may do your will by loving you and one another. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

PRELUDE      Siciliano and Allegro      Alcock

WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP
Jesus says, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.”
Christ is here.
Calling us to the water, beckoning us to the feast,
Christ is here.
Speaking to our souls, listening to our prayers,
Christ is here.
Binding us as one body, sending us out in service,
Christ is here.
Jesus says, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.”
Christ is here. Let us worship the Lord.

† HYMN      “I Want to Walk as A Child of The Light”      Hymnal #377

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Forgiving God, You teach us to seek reconciliation with those who have wronged us; for, above all else, we are to love one another. But we let resentment smolder until anger flares, destroying any chance of peace. We blame others and refuse to repent. Grant us grace, we pray. Make space in our wounded hearts for the possibility of forgiveness and teach us to turn toward others in love as you have turned toward us. (Silent Confession)

ASSURANCE OF GRACE

† SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

SCRIPTURE:  Matthew 18:15-20

SERMON:       “Out of Context”     Rev. MP Panco

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH      The Confession of 1967 9.44
We believe that “God has created the peoples of the earth to be one universal family. In God’s reconciling love, God overcomes the barriers between brothers and sisters and breaks down every form of discrimination based on racial or ethnic difference, real or imaginary. The church is called to bring all people to receive and uphold one another as persons in relationships of life;”
