Order of Worship October 24

 CENTERING PRAYER

Faithful God, through rain and thunder, you are with your people. Even when we turn our backs on you, your patience and tolerance abound, and you give us a new start, time and time again. Thank you for pouring your grace over us through Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.

PRELUDE (Sunday Worship) O God, Our Help In Ages Past       Young

WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

We will not fear.

Though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;

we will not fear, for you are with us.

Though the waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult;

we will stand on the promises of our Lord and Savior.

† HYMN “God of Grace and God of Glory” Hymnal #307

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

  God, our rock and refuge, we allow many things to erode our faith in you. When life gets stormy, we let our uncertainty cloud our trust in you. We think we know better and believe we can weather the rain. Forgive our lack of hope and the disbelief that drowns us. Allow us to hold on to you, our rock, and to build up our lives on the foundation of your love. We continue to pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our stalwart and our shelter. (Silent Confession)

 I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
