The Work of the Spirit

I Corinthians 2:9-10

But as it is written: "what no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him"--these thing God has revealed to us through the spirit; for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.

As we face the changes in our life, we are often caught up by questions.  Questions that search for God's presence, questions that search for understanding, questions that look for God's purpose.  Life carries us in many new directions, sometimes to new places, sometimes into new relationships, sometimes toward new careers.  In each journey of our life, God is with us opening doors, creating new opportunities, and preparing us for the challenges that lie ahead.

As we prepared to relocate, I have been struck time and again by the phone calls that helped pave the road for our life in Dallas.  Relationship that began in St. Louis opened job opportunities.  Friendships in Dallas that once seemed stagnant began a new period of rejuvenation.  Concerns and questions about schools offered friends an opportunity to share their wisdom learned from sillier circumstances.  God began working, easing our way, long before the move began.  God was with us then.  God continues with us now.

Often we face life's challenges, God has prepared our way long before we knew of our next move, our next journey.  God's hand, the Spirit's work helps prepare us for whatever lies ahead giving us strength, courage, and hope for our life's work.

Dear God,

We know You are with us, but often we forget to listen and watch for Your presence.  Hope open our minds and our hearts the we might listen and see with a freshness of spirit.   Open us that we might recommit to the work You want us to do.  Let us feel the assurance of Your presence.  Let us walk toward life assured that You will alway prepare our way.  In Your name we pray.  Amen
