Oh the World You Will Build!

As part of the PW program "Under Construction", each table built Lego structures which we then, put together into a village.  The program was written by Mary Beth and narrated by Linda and Lynn.

A parody based on The Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss
Oh the World You Will Build!

With apologies to Dr. Seuss

 Hip Hip Hooray!
Today is your day.
You're off to start building
You're off and away!

You have hat on your head.
You have on safety shoes
The toolbox is filled
with tools that you choose.
You're on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the gal who'll decide where to go.

You'll look over blueprints. Look 'em over with care.
About some you will say, "No that doesn’t go there."
With your eyes safely covered and gloves on your hands,
you're too smart to follow any not-so-good plans.

And  so you continue
to look for THE one.
We could even...what if…
Or maybe...at last it’s done.

You have a plan
and toolbox in hand.

And now things can happen
and frequently do
to people as determined
and clever as you.

Then things start to happen,
don't worry. Don't stew.
Just go right along.
You'll start happening too.

OH!
THE WORLD YOU WILL BUILD!

You've started construction
You'll  see a great sight!
You've joined the dreamers
who build with great might.

You measure once, measure twice indeed.
Then you can cut, oh it’s just like you need.
Whatever the task,, you'll be the best of the best.
Whatever you build, it will top all the rest.

Except when you don' t
Because, sometimes, you won't.

I'm sorry to say so
but, sadly, it's true
and Hang-ups
can happen even to you.

You can get all hung up
in the task of construction.
And your help will not show.
You'll be left in a Lurch.

You'll come down from the Lurch
with an unpleasant bump.
And the chances are, then,
that you'll be in a Slump.

And when you're in a Slump,
construction’s not much fun.
Un-slumping yourself
is not easily done.

You will come to a place where the tasks are a challenge.
Some door jams are slaunchwise. But mostly they're straight.
If only you’d added just one more inch
Do you dare ask for help? Do you dare try again?
How much can you lose? How much can you win?

(And) IF you try again, should it move left or right...
or right-and-three-quarters? Or, maybe, not quite?
Or go around back and sneak in from behind?
Simple it's not, I'm afraid you will find,
for a determined builder to make up her mind.

You can get so confused
that your mind starts to race
then you keep going [on] at a break-necking pace
Sawing, nailing, pounding, creating new space,
headed, I fear, toward a most frustrating place.
The Waiting Place...

...now you’re just waiting.
Waiting for a rain to go
or the blinds to come, or concrete to set
or carpet to come, or the tile to get
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or a No
or waiting for new grass to grow.
You spend your time waiting.

Waiting for the paint to dry
or waiting for the walls to go up
or just waiting to wait .
Oh my! Sigh...
or waiting perhaps, for wood stain to dry
or a new saw blade, or a sander to try
or  more screws to use or a yard full of plants,
or a level that’s not,

or Another Chance.
Everything is just waiting.

NO!
That's not for you!

Somehow things will progress
all that waiting pays off

You're back on track now so
let’s get on with the rest.

With hammer bang-banging,
the walls you’re now raising!
Shingles and gutters, the roof rises high
Ready for anything that falls from the sky!

Oh, the world you will build! It’s all so much fun!
With finishing touches, there’s still more to be done.

Paint brush and ladder, drop cloth and wallpaper roll

It’s all coming together, joy in your soul!
Done! You'll be tired as tired can be,
with the whole wide world watching you turn the key.

The door opens wide.
Ready for business inside.

Now others are asking
just what are you building?
Smiling you, you say

“God’s world I am building.

God alone
Draws the blueprint I follow,
I’m only his servant
His tool and his hands

The tools that He gives, special gifts from above
Fill a toolbox so full to build a world of love.”

With the tool of care, you see needs all hither and yon,
So you gather those round who know how to go on.---
With wisdom to know
through trials and the go wrongs

On you will go
teaching the know how and
On you will go
until you hit the wall
Bang!  Pep rally time.
Remember the goal!,

Your cheerleader reminds you
Love mends heart and souls

So opening the toolbox
You check  what your tools are
for meeting the challenge
be it near or far.

So back to the building
of course you will go
There’s much to be done
And God is awaiting you know.

Building  a fam’ly, a life
And a village with tact
You remember that Life’s
a Great Balancing Act.

Just never forget to be dexterous and smile.
And never mix up your hammer with your file.

And will you succeed?
Yes! you will, indeed!
(98 and 3 / 4 percent guaranteed.)

God’s world you are building!

So...
be your name Kelly or Kathy or Kay
or Rebecca Millie or Ellen O'Shea
With His tools and His plan
Today is your day!

God’s  world is awaiting.

So...start building today!
