He's got the Mothers and the Fathers in his hands

These days it
seems that we can each have the whole world in our hands as well, or at least
the whole World Wide Web, not to mention all the people we share it with through social media,
e-mails, texting, and even the more traditional way of a good old- fashioned
phone call. It’s easy to see
how this new technology and the communication it brings is changing the world
around us sometimes for the better (easy way to call for help if you have
trouble on the road) and sometimes for the worse (your trouble on the road may
have been caused by someone distracted by their device!) I’m usually an early adopter of new
technology, but I resisted joining the smart-phone world for quite a while,
staying connected through my trusty old flip-phone, my laptop, and my
workstation at home. But
when the technology reached a point that I could do just about everything I was
doing on all of this equipment, plus all I could do with my still and video
cameras with a smart phone, I had to try it. And I’m starting to like it. A lot.
Those of us that get to serve on the St. Mark Communications
Committee are working to adapt to this new technology as well-- we recently
learned that the service that hosts our web site will no longer be supporting
the old server software, and this is due in some measure
because of the fact that most folks these days access the web from mobile
devices. We see this as an
opportunity to re-think just what it is that we want to achieve in terms of
both spreading the Gospel and serving the needs of our congregation and staff,
and would love to hear what you think about how we take advantage of the
possibilities, from better ways of getting information about church activities
and more timely ways of communicating schedule changes due to weather to the
ability to provide support and pay for activities through on-line transactions.
The old web site will be up and active (thank you Cathy
Schindler!) for a few weeks, and
we would love for you to go there, look it over, and tell us what you find most
useful and what you would like to see in the next version. You can use the links there to check
out our other forms of social media-- this Blog, our Facebook page, Twitter
feeds, and Pinterest pins, and let us know what you think of them as well. We will be presenting all of this
during the Mid-Week program at 7:00 on May 7th in Fellowship Hall,
and would like to invite everyone to attend. This informative and exciting evening will begin at 6:30
with the Mid-Week worship service, in Fellowship Hall as well, where we will
seek God’s guidance in all of these efforts, and then get to work with the
confidence and inspiration that comes from knowing we are all in God’s Hands!
