Worship August 17

PRAYER IN PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP:  Teach us, good Lord, to serve you as you deserve; to give and not to count the cost; to show kindness and not seek to find fault in one another, to toil and not to seek for rest; to labor and not to ask for any reward, save that of knowing that we do your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 8:1-2)
Leader:      O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

People:      You have set Your glory above the heavens.

Leader:      From the lips of children and infants You have ordained praise.

People:      From our lips Your praise will come forth.

Leader:      Let us worship our majestic God.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Lord, over the centuries You have called to the human race in so many different ways.  You have shown us Yourself in the wonder of Your creation.  You have sent Your Son to show us Your face and to call us into relationship with You.  But we have often turned away from Him and tried to fill the void in our lives with other things.  Instead of following Him, we turn to gods of our own making to help us fix what is wrong in us.  Forgive us for not opening our lives to Your Son and help us open our hearts to receive Him in new ways.  AMEN.
