Worship Service April 18, 2021

10:00 am Sunday Virtual Service

ORDER OF WORSHIP

CENTERING PRAYER God of surprising revelations, I thank you for rest and renewal. I thank you that when you come to your people, you speak peace and invite faith in you. Make this new day a time when I will give more thanks for life than I did yesterday. Give me ears to hear your will for me, hands that are open to others, and eyes to see the beauty in your world; in Jesus’ name. Amen.

PRELUDE      The Trumpet Shall Sound       Handel/Smith

WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP

When the disciples were certain that Jesus was dead,

he stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

Let us watch for the risen Christ this day,

bursting in with new life and new hope.

Easter people, Christ is risen!

Christ is risen indeed!

† HYMN      “Longing for Light, We Wait in Darkness”      Hymnal #314

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

What love you have given us, O God, that we should be called your children. What love you have given us, O Christ, that we should share a table with you. Forgive us when we act as if we are your only children: when we do not recognize your image in the faces of strangers, enemies, or friends; when we do not share our own tables, forgetting that we need each other. Forgive us, O Christ, maker of peace, and teach us to follow in your way. (silent confession)

ASSURANCE OF GRACE

† SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

SCRIPTURE      Luke 24:36b-48

SERMON      "On the Precipice of Change”      Rev. MP Panco

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Confession of 1967; 9.08

We believe that in Jesus of Nazareth, true humanity was realized once for all. Jesus, a Palestinian Jew, lived among his own people and shared their needs, temptations, joys, and sorrow. He expressed his love of God in word and deed and became brother to all kinds of sinful people.
