The Narthex at Christmas

Hebrews 13:7-8 New International Version (NIV)

Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

The Narthex is a wonderful meeting and social spot in our church at St. Mark Presbyterian, and it is beautiful at Christmas with its high ceiling, towering Christmas tree with stained glass windows along the sides.  Originally, though, it was our sanctuary. One of the reasons we chose Gale Hill as the architect for our "new" sanctuary was his vision for the "old" sanctuary. Other architects carved it up into classrooms, but Gale saw it as an open space which reflected the warmth and friendliness of our congregation.  The "new" sanctuary reflects many of the same elements that were in the "old", the high ceiling with beams resembling the underside of a ship, the brick and wood on walls, the simple brass cross in the center, and the stained glass using the same colors and techniques by the same artists at Emil Frei Studios.  Click here for more on the stained glass windows.
