Last week the Presbyterian Women sponsored a field trip to various sites significant in the life of Elijah Parish Lovejoy, one of the name-sakes of our Giddings-Lovejoy Presbytery. Our first stop was Old Des Peres Presbyterian Church where Lovejoy preached at one time. It is the oldest Protestant church in Missouri where the congregation still worships several times a year. One of our members even recalled renovating the cemetery many years ago digging the stones up that had fallen and re-erecting them..
We were privileged to have the pastor of Faith Des Peres, Rev. Dr. Anne Epling, give us a brief history of the church. For more information,
click here. Later we walked around the cemetery seeing stones for people born in the 1700's and remembering those who have no stones.
