Worship Prayers for Oct. 25

PRAYER IN PREPARTION:  God of Hope, by faith we know that you created the world, and that what is seen is made by things that are not visible.  Open our eyes to your presence among us that we may hear your word with clarity and a sureness of hope, as we follow you on the journey of faith. Amen. 

CALL TO WORSHIP

Gather before God, O faithful ones, listen for God’s Word.

         God calls us to this place; God speaks to us here.

We are called to follow where God leads us.

         By faith we journey, even when asked to walk into an unknown future.

We come to honor God and give thanks, to learn and follow in God’s way.

         By faith we have the ability to share the good news.

We come in faith to the One who calls us to journey together.

         We come with hope and expectation: honoring the past, grounded in the present,   looking toward the future.

  PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, through all times and places your promises have assured the generations.  We are astounded by the faith of our ancestors.  We confess that we have shaped our own standards and values rather than seeking to know your way.  We rarely venture out without knowing the destination.  We want to know what’s in it for us before committing to your call. Forgive us, O God, from turning from faith in you: focusing on our own desires rather than on your call to us.  Call us back, restore us, renew us. Amen.
